Five DSTV Premiership games were played on Saturday, that saw wins for Black Leopards, Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates.
Golden Arrows 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs
Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs played to a 2-2 draw at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday. Sibusiso Conco gave Arrows the lead from the penalty spot, after Willard Katsande was adjudged to have fouled Zolani Nkombelo in the box. But it was a short-lived lead as Leonardo Castro equalised a few minutes later, heading in from a Khama Billiat corner. Chiefs went into the lead when Castro was on the end of a good move with Billiat and Lebogang Mayama, but the goal of the game was scored by Nduduzo Sibiya, who gave Itumeleng Khune no chance, after being neatly set up by Knox Mutizwa.
Black Leopards 1-0 Maritzburg United
Rodney Ramagalela marked his return to Thohoyandou Stadium and Black Leopards with the winning goal to give Lidoda Duvha their first win of the season, and move them off the bottom of the table. It was the first game for Leopards since Belgian coach Patrick Aussems was sacked, and while incumbent coach Dylan Kerr wasn’t on the bench, he was in the stands watching on. Maritzburg on the other hand will be disappointed as they drop down to bottom spot, and a fourth loss sees Eric Tinkler’s team continue to seek their first points of the season.
Stellenbosch 2-0 Chippa United
Stellenbosch picked up their first win of the season thanks to goals from their foreign contingent. Newly-signed Argentinian winger Junior Mendieta gave the home team the lead against Chippa in the first half, before Zambian midfielder Nathan Sinkala sealed the points late in the game to give Steve Barker’s men a good 2-0 win at the Danie Craven Stadium.
Orlando Pirates 2-1 SuperSport United
Teboho Mokoena gave SuperSport the lead in the opening minutes of the game, but Pirates were level early in the second half after Siyabonga Nhlapo fouled sub Terrence Dzvukamanja in the box and Zakhele Lepasa scored from the spot. Another substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa grabbed the winner for Pirates as they pounced on a defensive mix-up between Luke Fleurs and Ronwen Williams.
Swallows 0-0 TS Galaxy
It was a tough battle between two of the new teams in the DSTV Premiership at Dobsonville Stadium. In the end both sides maintained their unbeaten record in the first four games of the season, as they played out to a goalless draw. The result also sees Brandon Truter’s Swallows team go top of the table temporarily.
