Sekhukhune Down Usuthu, Stellies Go 2nd

Earlier in the day Stellenbosch moved to second on the DStv Premiership table, with a 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants.

Sekhukhune United 2-0 AmaZulu

AmaZulu striker Lehlohonolo Majoro shot wide in the 8th minute, while Pogiso Mahlangu had a great chance for the home team in the 12th minute, but his shot was well saved by Veli Mothwa. A minute later Chibuike Ohizu shot into the side-netting.

Seth Parusnath went close in the 26th minute, but he slipped as he shot, and Mothwa was on hand to make a save. Tshediso Patjie shot wide a minute later. Some last gasp defending by Nyiko Mobbie and goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata denied Augustine Mulenga scoring in the 41st minute.

Goalless at half-time, it took three minutes for Sekhukhune to take the lead, as Willard Katsande scored his first goal of the season, pouncing at the far post, after Mahlangu flicked a corner across goal.

It was almost two moments later, but Patjie was ruled off-side in a swift Sekhukhune counter attack.

But it was 2-0 in the 51st minute as Ohizu scored his fifth goal of the season, set up by Patjie.

The lead was no more than they deserved, against an Usuthu side that were a bit flat after their CAF Champions League heroics on the weekend.

Benni McCarthy rung the changes, trying to get back into the game. Luvuyo Memela went close from a free kick in the 67th minute, but Nsabata was able to make the save.

A minute later it was almost a third on the other end end, but Mothwa made two good saves in a row to keep it 2-0. Mothwa was fouled by Mahlangu in the movement, and received a second yellow card, and Sekhukhune were reduced to ten men.

Hendrick Ekstein’s attempt in the 92nd minute was just off target and while AmaZulu tried to get back into the game, it wasn’t there night, and they suffered their second defeat of the season and remain seventh. Sekhukhune move up to fourth on the table.

Stellenbosch 1-0 Marumo Gallants

Stellenbosch continued with their unbeaten start to the season, as they beat Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the DStv Premiership, thanks to a goal by Ashley Du Preez.

The two teams created a number of good chances but failed to capitalise, however Du Preez handed the home side the lead in the 26th minute, following up to finish after Junior Mendieta’s initial effort had hit the upright.

The victory saw Stellenbosch climb into second position with 16 points, three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Gallants remained in the 15th spot with three points.
