Shonga – It’s A Good Feeling To Be Back

Justin Shonga is hoping to regain his form and help Sekhukhune United secure a good spot in the DStv Premiership this season.

Shonga was unveiled on Tuesday alongside former SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike and former TS Galaxy defender Luckyboy Mokoena.

Shonga says it’s a good feeling to be back in South Africa after a short spell in Egypt with Ismaily.

Having originally come to South Africa via Orlando Pirates, Shonga had some impressive performances for the Buccaneers, scoring 17 goals in all competitions before losing favour. A move to Tshakhuma (now Marumo Gallants) did not last long, and after six months he joined Cape Town City.

However he failed to score for the Cape Town Club, and left at the end of the 2020/2021 season. But in Egypt he featured in just four league games for Ismaily, starting only twice.

Now the Zambian international is back in South Africa and hoping to help Sekhukhune secure a good spot in the league.

“I’d say it’s a good feeling to be back in the DStv Premiership because here in South Africa I feel at home,” Shonga told the club’s media department.

“It’s different when I was playing for Ismaily, the environment it’s not that good football-wise, but in terms of if you want to focus only on football, that’s fine, but here it’s suitable for me because here I feel at home and I’ve experienced the DStv Premiership before which is the PSL and I’ve been here for years. So yeah, it’s a good feeling.

“I wouldn’t promise so much because I have to join the team and have to know the team, how it plays and stuff.

“I have to cope up with a team, despite the league, the DStv Premeiership, its the league I have played for quite some time.

“So ja, I just want to help the team get more points because they are doing well at the moment. So I just want to help the team keep on going and doing more and more and getting my form back, focusing on myself working hard, helping the team to gain as many points as we could when I’m still around, and helping the the technical team and the players, and coping up with the guys and just to have fun because it’s football so I have to enjoy.

“I would say, just wanna be part of the team in each and every situation in good and bad times because it’s football, you have to expect everything and whatever comes our way, I want to help the team win, winning more games, helping the team win, maybe finishing in the top eight, you see the team just joined the league.

“So I want to do that to the team. And ja, we’ll see when the season ends, we just have to work hard. That’s all I can say.”
