Spurs Receive Boost

Word coming in is that Cape Town Spurs have received a boost in their GladAfrica Championship campaign, after they were awarded three points by the PSL DC.

This comes after the ruling against Cape United, who were unable to field a team for their fixture at the start of the year. 18 of Roger De Sa’s team tested positive before the game, and the fixture could not take place.

A source at the club confirmed that they have been awarded the points, although the scoreline was recorded as 0-0 in the outcome.

It is a big boost for Spurs, who at the start of the week were in 15th place, one of the two relegation spots.

However a victory over Cape Town All Stars on Wednesday saw them climb out of the bottom two spots for the first time since November, as they moved to 13th, one point ahead of All Stars.

And now with the addition of these three points, they are four points ahead of All Stars and five ahead of 15th-placed Steenberg United, and Spurs can feel relatively safe for the first time this season. Bizana Pondo Chiefs remain bottom, a further five points behind Steenberg.

Spurs have had a disastrous campaign considering that last season when they were still known as Ajax Cape Town, they were arguably the best team in the league until the lockdown, but when football resumed, they surrendered the title to Swallows.

In what has been an unusual campaign, Spurs suddenly find themselves actually closer to the promotion playoff spots, than they are to bottom spot, as they are now just 8 points behind second-placed TS Sporting and third-placed Royal AM.

However, a source close to Cape United, has added that the club are appealing the decision. So while as things stand Spurs are in a better position, things may change if that appeal is successful.
