Stellies, Pirates Draw, AmaZulu Lose To Baroka

Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch drew 0-0, while Baroka ended AmaZulu’s unbeaten run with a 1-0 win in the two DStv Premiership games played on Tuesday afternoon.

Baroka’s victory ended Benni McCarthy’s unbeaten run of 16 games with Usuthu. Pirates’ draw also confirms that the Buccaneers’ mathematical chance of winning the league is now over.

It also means that Mamelodi Sundowns are now just one victory away from winning the league.

Stellenbosch 0-0 Orlando Pirates

Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates played to a goalless draw at the DC Stadium on Tuesday.

Stellenbosch almost took the lead in the fifth minute, as Wayne Sandilands was forced to save a free kick from Jayden Adams. His rebound fell to Ashley Du Preez, who hit the upright, before Nathan Sinkala blasted over. It was a good start by the home team, who showed the early intent.

Gabadinho Mhango had a chance from a set piece in the 25th minute, but it failed to threaten Lee Langeveldt’s goal.

Sandilands made a really good save in the 33rd minute to deny Adams’ powerful shot, and it remained goalless.

Stellenbosch should have been in the lead a minute later, Stanley Dimgba raced clear before laying the ball back for Du Preez, who somehow missed a tap in from in front of a goal. A few minutes later Sinkala’s attempt from a free kick was deflected over

Kabelo Dlamini tried a long range effort just before halftime, but it went straight at Langeveldt, and at halftime it remained goalless.

Dimgba went over with the first chance of the second half, just over a minute after the restart.

Three minutes later Dlamini drew a good save from Langeveldt, as he attempted to place a free kick into the corner.

Steve Barker’s team continued to apply the pressure, and Mendieta had a chance on the hour mark, but his header was off target.

Langeveldt made a good save in the 63rd minute to keep Mhango’s chance out, and was on hand in the 83rd minute to deny Pirates again.

The home team continued to threaten, but in the end neither team could find a winner and the points were shared.

AmaZulu 0-1 Baroka

Baroka ended AmaZulu’s unbeaten run as they won 1-0 at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday.

The opening quarter saw the visitors pushing for a breakthrough, as they applied the pressure on Benni McCarthy’s team, Evidence Makgopa’s chance in the 16th minute went wide, while Goodman Mosele’s long range effort two minutes later was deflected behind.

Lehlohonolo Majoro had a chance for Usuthu in the 22nd minute, but it was off target.

Just as AmaZulu looked to be taking control, t was Baroka grabbed the lead in the 38th minute. Richard Mbulu received a pass Makgopa, took a touch before sending in a left-shooter shot from just outside the area that left Veli Mothwa with no chance.

In the 44th minute Oscarine Masuluke kept Baroka in the lead with a good save from a Majoro effort.

Just before halftime Makgopa was inches away from doubling the lead, but he was unlucky to see his shot hit the upright.

Luvuyo Memela’s first time volley in the 55th minute tested Masuluke, but the Baroka goalkeeper was able to make the save.

AmaZulu pressed for an equaliser, but despite a late onslaught, Baroka held fast, and ended Usuthu’s unbeaten run.
