Two DSTV Premiership games were played on Sunday, as Benni McCarthy took charge at AmaZulu for the first time.
AmaZulu 3-1 Chippa United
Benni McCarthy’s reign at AmaZulu got off to a winning start at Kings Park Stadium as AmaZulu beat Chippa 3-1.
Despite a bright start from AmaZulu, Isaac Nhlapo opened the scoring for Chippa in the 14th minute, after AmaZulu were unable to clear their lines and the defender finished nicely past Siyabonga Mbatha.
AmaZulu were level in the 23rd minute when Augustine Mulenga got to the end of a low driven cross from Siphelele Mthembu, and drove it home.
Five minutes later Amigo Memela gave Usuthu the lead, running onto a pass from Mulenga, before putting the ball into the back of the net.
Ten minutes into the second half Mbatha made a double save to deny Chippa, and from the counter-attack Memela added another for AmaZulu, his sixth of the season, once again Mulenga with the assist.
Black Leopards 1-2 Swallows
Swallows came from a goal down to beat Leopards 2-1 at the Thohoyandou Stadium, and join Mamelodi Sundowns on 18 points, though Swallows remain second on goal difference.
Leopards were ahead in the sixth minute when Onyedikachi Ononogbu opened the scoring for the home team.
Swallows found the equaliser just before halftime, when Ruzaigh Gamildien finished off a good build up.
Joseph Mhlongo came back to haunt his former club as he scored in the 72nd minute to give Swallows the lead. An excellent individual effort from the edge of the box.
