Sundowns Set For Major Recruit

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly secured one of the most highly-rated figures in European football as a new director of their already impressive technical team.

Flemming Berg, the man responsible for the overhaul of the new Danish Golden Generation brewing has served as the development manager of the DBU (Danish Football Union) over the last seven years.

Within this period, the country has emerged as one of the leading sides in world football, having reached the semi-final of the 2020 Euros and qualifying for two consecutive FIFA World Cups.

According to Danish publication, Ekstabladet, the DBU has announced he will step down from his role on 31 March and is set to join the DStv Premiership champions.

“Everyone in Danish football owes Flemming Berg a big thank you for his great and tireless efforts and contribution to the development of Danish football,” Football Director Peter Møller said.

“The many talented talents in Danish football and the great success on the youth and senior national teams have been credited to Flemming.”

Berg served as a chief scout in both Brøndby and FC Nordsjælland before a seven-year spell as international scout at Premier League giants Chelsea.

It’s been reported he will be responsible for modernising the youth development at Masandawna who’s notably been dominant in the transfer market but have not had much success nurturing young talent into first-team regulars as they would have liked in recent years.

With the first-team squad’s average age at around 28,4, with Promise Mkhuma (21) and no other player under the age of 25 after the academy graduate, Berg will likely be tasked to help secure promising talent and help develop the academy products to levels adequate for first-team football.
