Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the signing of centre back Rushine De Reuck from Maritzburg United.
iDiski Times journalist Velile Mnyandu reported in the latest edition that Sundowns were on the verge of strengthening the defence, and it has been an open secret that De Reuck was on Sundowns’ shopping list.
That secret became even more open on Friday when photos of De Reuck signing a Sundowns contract were shared on Facebook, and then picked up by a number of football websites and social media accounts.
“This is something I’ve always wanted for myself. Sundowns has been the best club in South Africa for a long time and I want to be part of that. I am really really excited!” De Reuck told the Sundowns website.
With the CAF registration due to to close this weekend, Sundowns have wasted no time in snapping up the 24-year-old former ASD Academy graduate.
Injuries, and the sad passing of Motjeka Madisha, has left Sundowns a little thin in the defensive department. Co Head Coach Rulani Mokwena told Mnyandu in iDiski Times that they were going to use this transfer window to strengthen the area.
After leaving ASD, De Reuck spent some time with Paços de Ferreira in Portugal before returning to South Africa to join Milano United. He spent some time at Hellenic too, before joining Maritzburg, where he has been for four seasons.
The Capetonian was named the PSL defender of the season in 2019/2020, and received his first Bafana Bafana call-up at the end of 2020.
He has signed a 5 year deal with the club.
