Mamelodi Sundowns picked up a comfortable 5-1 win against ten-man CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam on Sunday afternoon.
CR Belouizdad 1-5 Mamelodi Sundowns
The Algerians were reduced to ten men in just the 3rd minute when defender Chouhaib Keddad made a save with his hand to deny Themba Zwane a clear goal. He got the red card, and Sundowns were awarded a penalty. Zwane stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
Despite being down to ten men, and playing second fiddle for most of the first half, Belouizdad drew level just before halftime, as Amir Sayoud finished off a great counter attack move, beating Denis Onyango, who was replaced by Kennedy Mweene at halftime.
Peter Shalulile put Sundowns back in the lead just two minutes into the second half, heading in superbly from a Lyle Lakay corner.
Zwane made it 3-1 on the hour mark, as he timed a run perfectly onto a Gaston Sirino pass, to beat the offside and the keeper.
Lebohang Maboe added to Belouizdad’s woes, when he added the fourth goal in the 75th minute.
Kermit Erasmus made it five just before full-time as Sundowns ran away victors.
With two wins in two games, Sundowns have now moved four points clear at the top of Group B, with TP Mazembe, who have played two draws, second. Sundowns play Mazembe away on the 6th of March.
