Swallows & Pirates Share The Spoils

Swallows and Orlando Pirates drew 1-1 in a Soweto derby at Dobsonville Stadium in Tuesday’s late DStv Premiership fixture.

Swallows 1-1 Orlando Pirates

Pirates got off to a great start, and Bandile Shandu put them into the lead in the third minute, getting his second goal in as many games, as he found himself in the middle of the box, and beat Jody February.

It was an action packed opening ten minutes as Wandisile Letlabika, Lebohang Mokoena and Keletso Makgalwa missed chances for the home team, while Kwame Peprah went over for Pirates.

Swallows were awarded a penalty after Makgalwa was brought down in the box in the 14th minute. Ruzaigh Gamildien stepped up to take the kick and blasted in to make it 1-1.

Terrence Dzvukamanja went wide in the 28th minute, while Makgalwa was off target again in the 32nd minute.

At half-time, it remained 1-1.

Swallows went close to taking the lead on the hour mark, first Siyabonga Mpontshane denied Tebogo Langerman, and then Paseka Mako cleared off the line as Kamohelo Mahlatsi tried to score on the rebound.

Langerman had another good chance in the 64th minute, but once again Mpontshane saved to keep things level. Three minutes later Makgalwa shot just wide from outside the area.

Kwanda Mngonyama, who had come on off the bench, thought he had a penalty in the 70th minute, as his shot on goal looked to strike Yagan Sasman’s hand as it was deflected behind.

Fortune Makaringe went wide from range in the 73rd minute, while Hotto’s deflected effort was well saved by February in the 86th minute.

Despite a late push for a winner, the match ended 1-1, and both Soweto teams had to make do with a share of the spoils.
