SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza has revealed why Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has turned out to be his lucky charm.
The 34-year-old has scored six goals in the DStv Premiership this season and his fine form has led to some calling for him to be called up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
Gabuza himself says he wants to don the national team shirt again and feels confident after managing to score every time the coach has watched from the stands.
“I still want to play for the national team and I just need to work hard, score goals, and show that I can still contribute to the national team,” he told Velile Mnyandu.
“It makes me happy that every time the coach is present I score, so it shows the coach is my lucky charm. I will push until I get the call up, but if it doesn’t come it’s okay.
Gabuza has made 13 appearances for Bafana and netted five goals, according to Transfermarkt, but his last one dates back to 2017.
“Yeah since I left, when coach Shakes Mashaba was there, I was doing well,” he added.
“I still have good memories, I scored a couple of goals there.”
