Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler said their 1-0 win over Golden Arrows was a deserved result, and they could have won by more goals.
Khanyisa Mayo scored from a free kick at Princess Magogo to seal the DStv Premiership win.
Tinkler felt they weren’t at their best in the first half, but came back well in the second 45, and could have won by a bigger margin.
“I don’t think we started the first off half well, to be honest, we wanted to play with the wind, it was quite windy today, and we managed to win the toss, and we got that advantage of playing with the wind, but we didn’t utilise it,” Tinkler told the club’s media department.
“Pretty lethargic in our buildup phase, lethargic in our creation phase, gave the ball away very, very cheaply, struggled to get into the final third, and when we did get in the final third, the two, three chances that we did create, we didn’t get enough bodies inside the box.
“Darwin put in two very, very good crosses that we didn’t look to get on the end of. But you know, there we had about four or five players in that first half that weren’t really performing to their full potential.
“So half time, didn’t want to change anything, wanted to give everybody an opportunity, and I just mentioned the fact that our performance was simply not good enough in the first half and the intensity needed to be a lot better, and we needed to want to win the game.
“Because we didn’t show that in the first half, and I thought we were a lot better in the second.
“We created fairly good chances, on the ball we looked a lot better, even though we were playing against the wind, it was more difficult to come out of defence, but once we made one or two changes, brought in one or two fresh legs, I thought the game really turned on its head and we should have won by two or three in my opinion.
“Mayo gets the goal from a free kick, but we had another chance just before that, I think with Mdantsane and then we had one right at the end again, where Mayo was one-on-one with the goalkeeper where potentially you could have really sealed the game.
“So I think ultimately, the result is a deserved result.”
