Tinkler – I Want To Win Things

Eric Tinkler says he is happy to be back at Cape Town City, and he is ready to take the club to the next level.

Tinkler, who coached City to third in the Premiership, and to victory in the Telkom Knockout in the 2016/2017 season, believes that the club has all the potential to be challenging for bigger things, and is excited to be back and part of that journey.

Tinkler, who was unveiled as the club’s new Head Coach on Monday, left City in 2017 to join SuperSport United, and is back four years later for his second stint at the club.

“Obviously, I’m extremely excited to be back at Cape Town City,” Tinkler told the club’s media department.

“I had a very successful season back in 2016, with Cape Town City and a lot of fun memories. So to be able to come back here, and hopefully replicate what we achieved back in 2016, and obviously improve on that will be the main target.

“I think what I’ve seen with this club is a club that yes, was successful under me then then had a good season under Benni by winning the MTN8, but since hasn’t really achieved much after that.

“And obviously we’d like to see that, that change. I think, we need to change the mentality, in particular the players that come to Cape Town City, they need to understand that Cape Town City is no longer, or never was in my opinion, a team that is a stepping stone to something bigger or better.

“I think they need to see this as a club that is also ambitious, that wants to win things. And the players that will come and play for Cape Town City need to show that, and I think that that becomes very important. I’ve come here because that’s what I want to do.

“I want to win things, I want to achieve things and I think Cape Town City has all the elements that is required in order to achieve that.”
