AmaZulu head coach Brandon Truter says he has no fear of facing Kaizer Chiefs because the depth in his squad is frightening.
Usuthu are visiting Chiefs in the Dstv Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday (5.30pm).
This will be regarded as a dress rehearsal as these two sides will also clash in the two-legged tie in the MTN8 semi-final later this month.
Usuthu reached the Wafa Wafa Cup four for the first time since the 2009-10 season, by beating last season’s losing finalists Cape Town City in the quarter-finals.
Chiefs, who have won this competition more than any other side, were given a sterner test by Stellenbosch FC, before winning on penalty shootouts.
Based on squad depth Truter has at his disposal, he feels AamZulu can upset Chiefs and come back with three points at the Calabash.
“Any team we put up at this moment, the quality that we have, the depth in the squad and unity and atmosphere, it’s fantastic,” said Truter.
“We backed ourselves if it’s at home or away game. We’ll try to get the three points on offer against Chiefs this weekend.”
Truter, in collecting 10 points after the opening four league matches for Usuthu, equalled Clive Barker’s best start with AmaZulu in the 1998-99 season, something that the former Swallows FC was thrilled to do.
However, Truter’s next task will be to match Barker by winning a trophy for the Green and White.
AmaZulu’s last trophy was the Coca-Cola Cup in 1992, beating Chiefs at the old FNB Stadium.
Meanwhile, Truter said, because the match against City was played in 120 minutes for them to get over the line, he will assess his squad as they are niggles.
“The boys put in a massive shift and we have a few tired bodies, a few niggles here and there,” said Truter.
“Luckily this week we had some time to work on it and hopefully we will have everyone available going to the Chiefs game. We have to look and see what we can manage.”
Sibusiso Mabiliso, who was released by Chiefs and has since come back to rejoin Usuthu, his first game for AmaZulu might be against his former club at FNB Stadium.
