Swallows FC coach Brandon Truter has spoken about the amazing run the team has had over the past year, that saw them lose only one match in 2020.
The Glad Africa Championship winners were promoted to the DStv Premiership this season, and are still unbeaten in the top flight with a third of the new season complete.
The run of form however began over a year, a run that saw them overtake Ajax Cape Town in the second tier to become eventual champions.
Swallows only lost 1 match in 2020, a 3-2 defeat to AmaTuks, and that was the only loss in a run of 25 games since December 2019 (17 wins, 7 draws and 1 loss).
‘Brakkies’ says it has been a great year for the team, and he feels being one of the more tactically-organised teams in the second tier, helped the transition to the top flight.
“People are taking notice now and people are seeing what Swallows is actually about. This run started in February 2020, you understand, it is almost a full calendar year that we have gone unbeaten,” Truter told the media.
“We carried on from where we left off in the GladAfrica.”
“Not to blow my own trumpet but ja, the technical team that we have assembled and the guys that we brought in, that made the transition from the Glad Africa to the PSL a bit better.”
“I think we were one of the stronger tactically-organised teams in the Glad Africa and once you have that and a bunch of players that is coachable, wanting to win and also people that have, players that have points to prove.
“I remember signing a few of these players at the beginning of the season and I can remember the headlines that was there from the media‚ that is Swallows is a retirement home and all this.”
“So ja, it’s players who fit into the structure. We have also built a culture at Swallows, you understand, and it’s very difficult for a coach to come in and build a culture at a club, And that culture is – we are one for all and all for one. That’s what we live by.”
Swallows are second in the DStv Premiership on 22 points, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 2 points.
