Swallows FC coach Brandon Truter has revealed what he told Ruzaigh Gamildien after links with Kaizer Chiefs affected the striker.

Gamildien was understood to be one of Chiefs’ targets in the recent transfer window but the 32-year-old ended up staying with the Dube Birds.

Truter, who sat down with iDiski Times writer Velile Mnyandu for an exclusive interview, has now opened up on the situation, saying he had to sit the player down to discuss his options.

“Look definitely, the Chiefs news when it broke during the mid season last season that Chiefs is interested it affected him,” he told iDiski Times.

“I think within that week when the news broke he got a red card against Chippa for lashing out, you understand, because he was still tied to Swallows and Swallows had an option on his contract, so his mind was playing tricks on him at that moment, but I sort of intervened there.

“I had to sit him down and look at his age and I told him that at his age he should be looking at longer duration, Chiefs was offering a short term contract which is not right for a player his age.

“I told him, ‘listen give us a chance to talk to you, bring your representative and let’s sit down with myself and the chairman and see if we can better the duration,’ and we managed to do that.

“Luckily the chairman gave him a longer term contract, managed to give him what will make him happy as well, a stable player, a happy player at the moment and then he gives you a brace.

“That is what happiness and stability brings so I’m happy for him, he is in a good space as well but now he needs to be mindful that he has Mwape Musonda lurking and wanting his spot.”

Gamildien scored a brace in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final but is yet to score in the DStv Premiership this season.
