Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict Vilakazi has questioned the coaching duo of the Buccaneers over their treatment of the club’s “best striker” Gabadinho Mhango.
The Malawian international stared for his country at the African Cup of Nations finishing as joint-third top goalscorer, but has now been thrice not included in his club’s squad since returning from Cameroon.
Vilakazi believes Mhango should be classified now as Pirates’ best striker and says everything fell into place for him after he had shown his quality in the continental football.
“Sometimes we all make mistakes as people, I’m not trying to defend anyone,” Vilakazi said on iDiskiTV.
“I think Orlando Pirates’ technical team just need to go back and look at themselves and the players they have. For me, it’s impossible, impossible, impossible that he should be benched.
“With the players who they have now, for me, it’s impossible. We just need to be brutal honest, it’s impossible for me.
“Currently, at Pirates there is no striker that is better than Mhango. We all make mistakes, coaches make mistakes and players do, but when it comes to performance, he is good.
“He was not a regular player at Pirates, then he went to African Cup of Nations and has shown his quality, but at his club he is not playing.”
Mhango has only featured four times, having assisted once in the DStv Premiership this season so far.
