Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates began their CAF campaigns, with Sundowns winning in the CAF Champions League, while in the CAF Confederation Cup, Pirates also began with a win.

Sundowns picked up a comfortable 2-0 away win in Botswana as they began their CAF Champions League campaign in the first round.
Mothobi Mvala made it two goals in two games for Sundowns, when he opened the scoring in the 11th minute at the Lobatse Sports Complex.
Sundowns dominated proceedings and it was no surprise that a minute into the second half it was two nil, as Peter Shalulile scored a good effort with the goalkeeper in no man’s land.
It could have been more, but Galaxy put in a good competitive performance and had a few chances of their own, but in the end Sundowns will be pleased with the result, going into the second leg at Loftus on the 5th of January.

Pirates began their CAF Confederation campaign at the Estadio dos Coqueiros with an important away win in the first leg of their first round tie.
After an even first half, Gabadinho Mhango had a great chance ten minutes into the second half to open the scoring for Pirates, but his attempt hit the woodwork.
But with 15 minutes to go, Pirates were in the lead, with Thembinkosi Lorch opening the scoring,
