Update On Sekhukhune Case
Sekhukhune United have learned their outcome after the Gauteng High Court ruled on the case with the PSL on Saturday.
The GladAfrica Championship side, who finished the campaign in second spot, look set to be awarded the league title and be promoted to the DStv Premiership after the Gauteng High Court dismissed the application to review the arbitration award.
The Gauteng-based club had challenged the PSL disciplinary committee’s ruling to deduct points from Polokwane City for not having the required number of five U23 players in their team sheet when both side’s met in January, but not awarding the points to them.
Sekhukhune, who are in their first season in the GAC, were arguing that because they had protested before this game, which they lost 1-0 on 02 January 2021, the points should not just be expunged by the league but also awarded to them.
The DC had then ruled in Sekhukhune’s favour, meaning they would have finished the season on 53 points, two above Royal AM.
However, the PSL, SAFA, Polokwane City, Royal AM and TS Sporting had challenged the DC’s ruling in court, which also meant that no official winner of the GladAfrica Championship has been confirmed yet.
