Warriors Join Coastal Utd In Compact Cup Final

Warriors will meet Coastal United in next week’s DStv Compact Cup final after beating Amabutho 2-1 in the second semi-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.

Earlier in the day United had beat Dinaledi 3-0 in the first semi-final.

Warriors, were coached by Swallows’ Dylan Kerr while Royal AM’s John Maduka and Golden Arrows’ Lehlohonolo Seema re-united to lead Amabutho.

Siyethemba Sithebe went just wide with a header in the sixth minute, while Itumeleng Khune made a good save in the 20th minute to deny Pule Mmodi.

Khune was back in the action in the 29th minute as he denied Mmodi from an acute angle, after a good run from the Arrows midfielder. A minute later Veli Mothwa had to be quick at the other end to deny Kwame Peprah from close range.

Njabulo Blom’s effort just before the break was deflected wide and at half-time it remained goalless.

Five minutes into the second half Warriors were in the lead, but it came through an unfortunate own goal from Sithebe, who tried to pass back to Mothwa, but sent the ball into the goal instead.

Amabutho found the equaliser in the 69th minute when Nkosinathi Sibisi was on hand to follow up after Khune’s initial save from close range.

Khune made a big save in the 77th minute to deny Mmodi, who had unleashed a powerful effort from just inside the box. Bonginkosi Ntuli went just wide three minutes later.

Monnapule Saleng made it 2-1 to Warriors in the 86th minute, as his low shot across goal beat Mothwa.

Amabutho went close to equalising immediately, howe Khune made some key saves to deny them.

Next week Amabutho and Dinaledi will return for the third/fourth play-off while Warriors will meet Coastal United in the final, with both games at the FNB Stadium this time.
