Cape Town City midfielder Mdu Mdantsane says they are ready for the challenge of beating ‘the best team’ in the country, when they play Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s MTN8 final.
Sundowns are unbeaten this season in all competitions, having reached this final, are through to the CAF Champions League group stages, and are top of the DStv Premiership table. City are currently 11th in the league, ten points behind the leaders.
Mdantsane is under no illusions about the strength of Sundowns, but in an exclusive interview with iDiski Times says they are up to the challenge.
“Yep. You know, to be the best you need to beat the best,” Mdantsane told iDiski Times.
“And ja, it’s gonna be a great final. It’s gonna be great final, they are on form, and they haven’t lost so far. And they haven’t conceded too far, which is gonna be a tough game, for sure.
“And we just have to be disciplined obviously, we just have to be disciplined and make sure that whatever chance we get, we score and we defend very well.
“I think it’s important, we don’t let them score first. And it’s the challenge that we’re looking forward to.”
When it comes to the head-to-head stats, it’s been even between the two clubs, with six wins each, and a draw in their thirteen previous meetings. The 26-year-old also says they are always motivated to play Downs.
“I think the mentality that we have in the team, obviously, we playing PSL, we’re professional, we know what to expect from each and every team,” he continued.
“And for us to be the best, obviously, we’re gonna face the best team. And we have to try by all means to win against the best for us to be the best.
“So I think that’s the mentality that we have as the team. And it’s kind of working for us, when we have to play teams like Sundowns, because the mentality, the spirit gets high.
“And we don’t need motivation that much. We get motivated. So ja, we want to keep on that record, and try win, man, not just Sundowns, but win against each and every team that we face.”
