Why Jele Will Miss Royal AM Game

Royal AM cannot select Happy Jele in the next two matches, despite signing him this week.

The 36-year-old was signed by the Spice People, who confirmed his arrival on Friday morning.

The move happened a day after the return of coach John Maduka, who was appointed on Thursday.

However, Maduka cannot field the experienced defender from the onset, starting against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday (15:30).

This is due to Jele having been sent off in a 2-0 loss against SuperSport United in the last game of last season for Orlando Pirates at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Jele was red carded in the 66th minute, after Fortune Makaringe had scored an own-goal for Andre Arendse’s side then.

When Jele was booked for the red card by referee Luxolo Badi after the hour mark, three minutes later SuperSport increased their score, as Ghampani Lungu added the second.

Jele will also miss the clash against Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup Last-32 at DHL Stadium next Saturday.

Jele, if he is fit after he was without a club for six months, is likely to make his club debut against SuperSport on 18 February at Chatsworth Stadium.

Interestingly, that is the venue that is held dear to Jele as it is where he made his PSL debut with Pirates 17 years ago.

It was on 20 September 2006 when Pirates were visiting Maritzburg United when he was just 19 years, eight months and 19 days old under coach Milutin Sredojevic.
