Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu says they will not be complacent when they face Ethiopia this week in back-to-back World Cup qualifiers.
South Africa meet the East African nation in Ethiopia on Saturday, before hosting them in Mzansi next week.
Xulu believes they will be showing their opponents respect ahead of the games, and while they are positive after beating Ghana in their last match, they must apply themselves in the same manner that they did before their triumph over the Black Stars.
“We don’t want to be complacent over what happened against Ghana,” Xulu said at a press conference.
“We know very well that we were able to perform the way we did because of the preparations, because of the respect that we gave Ghana, and we gonna do the same thing when we’re up against Ethiopia.
“They’re going to earn our respect and we’re going to prepare the way that we always prepare, whenever we play our tough encounters.
“Going to Ethiopia, it will never be easy. I have quite a few Ethiopians playing in the same league in Israel, so I know very well how tough they can be. So it will never be an easy game.
“And we are very much aware of the competition that we are going to be up against, because obviously we playing them at home.
“And on the second game we’re looking very forward to, to play in front of our home fans. And to make sure that we get the result.
“It’s been looking positive from the past two games, obviously, we have a very new group, we have a new coach, and it’s very exciting.”
