Kaizer Chiefs stand-in coach Arthur Zwane praised his team for their “amazing” performance and also had fond words for Man of the Match, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Amakhosi claimed three points at home after a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday evening, thanks to strikes from Ngcobo and Phathutshedzo Nange.
The Glamour Boys moved up to second on the DStv Premiership table – sitting 12 points behind the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Zwane praised his team for their efforts under difficult circumstances.
“As you know we had a very complex fortnight and we had to wait for the players to come to training in bits and wraps,” he said after the match.
“The performance this evening was quite amazing from the boys, we didn’t expect that in the fact that we didn’t prepare thoroughly in a way that we would’ve loved to prepare the team like we usually do.
“Everything happens for a reason and we thank God for giving the boys the strength, giving the technical staff the strength, considering where we come from.”
Zwane also explained that Ngcobo hasn’t played as much this season as last because he had gone through a bit of a dip but was happy that he could show his talent with a goal and an assist on Sunday.
“Sometimes in football, more especially since we come from a season that was very, very tough, for us playing in CAF Champions League and also playing domestic league and cup games at the same time, so him and Njabulo (Blom) and many other youngsters played a lot of games,” he added.
“We could see them dropping a little bit, in terms of having fatigue and we had to manage him.
“We can see him now coming back, he is alive again and we’re happy to see, especially in this game today, showcasing his talent and perform like he did.”
