Zwane Rues Missed Chances

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane rued the missed chances by his team in the 1-0 defeat to Royal AM on Sunday afternoon.

Chiefs lost thanks to a Victor Letsoalo penalty, and while Zwane congratulated their opponents, he felt it could’ve been a different story had they taken their chances.

Zwane felt for the most part his team were the better side, but did concede that his team looked to have low energy levels, as they have not trained a lot since the covid-19 outbreak that sidelined most of the Chiefs setup.

“I think first 15 minutes to 25 minutes I think we were on top of them, it looked we could score at any given time,” Zwane told SuperSport after the game.

“But we couldn’t take the chance that hit the upright and I believe had we scored that one it could have given us that advantage, and with the fact that we were already in control, it could have been a different story going into halftime.

“And I think we started slow second half, obviously now we’re chasing the game, we try to add attacking players forward, because we knew that they’re a team that wants to play, and also they’ve equally good players that can quickly go forward in terms of your counter attacks, but we did not give them the space that they wanted most of the time, and ended up giving the ball away cheaply, which is what we wanted them to do.

“And we just unfortunate not to take the few chances that we created in the game, we had another one that maybe Castro could have done better, another one I think first half with Keagan so ja, we created a few, although some of them were half chances.

“But if you can play against a team like this and still and be able to dominate them, though at some point we playing in patches, but it’s a work in progress when it comes to that I think could even see the impact of not being trained, energy levels started dropping and our final third entry was not clear because of the distances that we had to cover.

“But ja, I think the boys gave their best, and we were just unfortunate that we lost the game on a set play, on a penalty, a set play, in open play I think we were by far the better team at some point.

“Tough luck to the boys and congrats to them, for the fact that they scored from the penalty spot and then collected maximum points, it’s a good thing for them.”
