Casric Boss Discusses Thrilling DStv Prem Promotion Race

Casric Stars chairman and head coach Joseph ‘Bucs’ Mthombeni admits the win over Polokwane City was big as it keeps their own hopes of outright promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship alive.

Abbey Seseane‘s sole goal in the first half was the difference as Stars defeated a 10-man City in Polokwane on Wednesday.

Mthombeni’s side remains in third position but are now equal on 46 points with Rise and Shine and a point away from top side Cape Town Spurs after 23 matches.

Mthombeni is aware that the race is still long with seven games still to be played saying no one can be relaxed.

“It is still a long race to go, seven games to go we cannot say who is going to win the race” said Mthombeni after the match.

“But I think we did ourselves a favour by winning this game after Chiefs [Kaizer]. I think Chiefs stretched us long, even our striker Mosadi [Kgomotso] because he had more mileage on Sunday. He couldn’t perform [today]”

“You could even see even my players were a little bit crampy because they [City] were coming at us at the end.

“They pushed more strikers forward and they started to play more second balls, wanting to find space but fortunately the defense kept their feet on the ground and concentrated. We ended up winning the game and I want to give credit to the boys, they fought very well”

Casric has another tough encounter in Limpopo over the weekend, against relegation-threatened Black Leopards in Malamulele on Saturday.
