City & Casric Share Spoils

Already relegated Cape Town City could only manage a 1-1 draw in their final PSL Playoff match against Casric Stars at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Monday afternoon

It took just two minutes for the hosts to open the scoring as Jody Ah Shene tapped in from close range after the Casric defence failed to clear their lines.

Despite City dominating proceedings as the match progressed, it was Casric who hit back in the 18th minute with Decide Chauke piercing through the Citizens defence before slotting past Luca Diana-Oliaro to make it 1-1.

Ah Shene should have gotten his brace in the 38th minute after the visitors were dispossessed at the back but instead blasted his shot against a Casric defender rather than just tapping into an open net.

The second period did not produce any spark with both sides trying their luck from range but continuously missing the target.

Substitute Emile Witbooi had a glorious chance to finally get his first topflight goal in the 82nd minute but delayed his shot as the Casric defence cleared the danger.

In the end, the points were shared with both teams now likely to meet again when the 2025/26 MFC campaign gets underway.

One last chance fell to Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout in the 88th minute but Wandile Mthombeni rushed off his line to make the all-important clearance.
