Ex-Chiefs Player Lands PSL Coaching Job

Former Ria Stars, Kaizer Chiefs and Dynamos defender, Rodney Thobejane has been appointed as assistant coach at Marumo Gallants.

Thobejane played for Chiefs from 2001 to 2003, making around 30 appearances for the club.

‘Danger’ turned to coaching after hanging up his boots, working at grassroots level and at clubs like Ditlou FC in the ABC Motsepe League in Limpopo.

But he has now received an opportunity to prove himself in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, which is part of the Premier Soccer League, after being announced as new assistant to Mpho Maleka.

Gallants have had a tough season after their relegation from the top flight and were even sitting in a MFC relegation spot when the league broke for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, a 1-0 win over Venda FC saw them climb from 15th into 14th position on the log, moving to 19 points and overtaking Platinum City Rovers.
