Motsepe Foundation Championship side Maritzburg United are closing in on signing former Cape Town Spurs defender Katlego Maphathe.
Maphathe recently parted ways with the Urban Warriors after his short-term contract expired having joined the club in January 2024, as Spurs opted against a further extension.
The 31-year-old, who can play in both right-back and in midfield, looks set for a return to KwaZulu-Natal having joined Spurs from Richards Bay.

Maphathe was snapped up by Spurs with the hope of helping them survive relegation, though he was unable to aid them avoid the drop.
The Urban Warriors managed to collect 19 points after signing the Botshabelo-born man, but despite collecting so many points, they couldn’t survive relegation as they finished 16th with 23 points, seven points behind 15th-placed Natal Rich Boyz.
Maphathe is currently with the Team of Choice and will pen a deal that will see him at the club until June 2025. The aim is to help Maritzburg gain promotion to the Betway Premiership.
