The Motsepe Foundation Championship top three; Milford FC, Casric Stars and Kruger United all dropped points this weekend, while Cape Town City took advantage of that.
MFC returned to our screens this past Friday where Gomora United hosted CT City at Dobsonville Stadium. Bafana Kali opened the scoring to put United in front but CTC came from behind with Therlo Moosa netting the equaliser before young defender Cayden Fortune scored the second goal which sealed the victory.
In Eastern Cape, Lerumo Lions came from a goal down to beat Highbury FC. Amajuba scored first through Senzo Ndlovu but Lions came back in the second half to win the maximum points.
Venda FC kept their chances of gaining promotion alive after a 1-0 win over Upington City, with former Orlando Pirates development player Ciniso Mazibuko scoring the only goal of the match.
In the capital city, Pretoria University secured a narrow win against league leaders Milford FC. Thabo Nkwana and Aphelele Teto scored in the first half to make it 2-0 to AmaTuks at the break. Milford FC pulled one back to make it 2-1, but immediately Akhanyile Norawana restored AmaTuks two-goal cushion to make it 3-1. Right at the death, Milford scored the second, but that was too little too late.
Struggling Baroka held Kruger United to a 1-1 draw. Harris Seoka opened the scoring for Baroka with 15 minutes remaining before the final whistle but Aphiwe Maphothe’s late equaliser denied them maximum points. Casric Stars also played a goalless draw midweek against Midlands Wanderers FC.
Black Leopards suffered a 2-0 loss to Hungry Lions, with the Malapipes moving to fifth place, just two points behind leaders Milford.
In the battle of the newcomers, between Leicesterford City and The Bees, City walked away with a massive three points after a 2-1 win to move to eighth place.
