With Chumani Butsaka having been transferred to Stellenbosch, Cape Town Spurs have moved swiftly in naming a new captain.
He’s been the topic of heated discussions of late due to interest from Kaizer Chiefs, but with Asanale Velebayi remaining at the club after Friday’s transfer window closed, the 21-year-old will now be leading the Spurs team.

Velebayi was given the armband by Ernst Middendorp ahead of Spurs’ Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture against Hungry Lions on Monday.
Like Butsaka, Velebayi has been part of the club since before he was a teenager. Butsaka was appointed to replace Clayton Daniels after Middendorp joined the club late in 2023.
