Upington City & Orbit College Promoted To Motsepe Foundation Championship

Upington City and Orbit College have secured promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after qualifying for the ABC Motsepe League play-off final.

Upington City (Northern Cape) beat Mpheni Home Defenders (Limpopo) in the first semi-final on Friday 3-2 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 in 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Orbit College (North-West) beat Umsinga United (KZN) 1-0 in the second semi-final to book their spot in the ABC Motsepe League play-offs final. The two finalists have also gained automatic promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

All four semi-finalists came out trumps in the group stages, with Umsinga United the first side to book their ticket for the semi-finals after topping Group A with six points from their opening two matches against Dondol Stars (Gauteng) and Buffalo FC (Free State).

In Group B, Upington City came out tops after collecting six points against Amavarara (Eastern Cape) and Young Bafana (Western Cape).

Meanwhile, Mpheni Home Defenders finished at the top of Group C with four points, level with Orbit College but with the better goal difference, with the latter also qualifying for the semi-finals as best second-placed team.

They drew each other 1-1 in the final Group C after beating Mlambo Royal Cubs (Mpumalanga) in their opening fixtures.
