Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker was proud of his team after they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 on Sunday but missed out on reaching the MTN8 final after an aggregate loss.
Their 1-0 win at Orlando Stadium was unfortunately not enough for Stellies, as Pirates advanced 2-2 on aggregate, and will play Mamelodi Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 7th of October.
Barker said he had mixed emotions, as he was proud, but also knows with a bit of luck they could’ve snuck through.
“Obviously, mixed emotions,” the Stellies coach told SuperSport after the game.
“You win the game but you don’t advance to the final. So again, I’ve got to be really proud of what we’ve done today.
“You know, we’ve had a tough week, coming into the game, suspensions, transfers, injuries. But ja, it does give opportunity to others. And a lot of them stood up today and really fought.
“And ja, maybe a little bit of luck we could have got more out of the game. But ja, I’m just really proud of the effort that was put in today.”
