Manqoba – New Signing Not Ready For First XI

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has admitted that new signing Kobamelo Kodisang is not yet ready to start games for the club.

Kodisang, 24, is one of four names signings by Sundowns this window so far, alongside Arthur Sales, Kegan Johannes and Asekho Tiwani, while they also triggered the release clause of Iqraam Rayners.

Ahead of Sunday’s MTN8 quarter-final with Polokwane City, Mngqithi admitted that Kodisang might need a little longer before he’ll start games for Masandawana.

“Kodisang, the good thing is that it’s a boy that I know [from] when he was young. I know what he’s capable of,” he told Robert Marawa on Radio 947.

“I also know him from coach David Notoane’s team, the Olympic team. I know him. I’ve always followed him. He’s a very, very, very, very big talent for South African football.

“And I think his decision to come back maybe will aid his chances of going back to the national team.

“But I must also say, with us he started a bit slow, maybe carrying a bit of weight at that time, but he’s improving in leaps and bounds with every match

“At this stage, he’s not yet ready to be in our first eleven, I must be honest with you. But he’s pushing very closely now, he’s beginning to get in shape.

“Technically, a very good player, a very big dribbler, very balanced boy that can also score goals.

“For us, maybe he might play on the left. Maybe he will play on the left. If he plays on the right, he’ll be very lucky.

“But we will play him on the left because we want goals from him. We don’t want him to be busy. We want him to always attack the box, not attack the goal line.”

Sundowns welcome Rise and Shine at Lucas Moripe Stadium at 15:00 on Sunday.
