Polokwane City head coach Willy Moloto says it’s about time his side lifts a domestic trophy and they will start by challenging for the MTN 8 title.
City finished seventh last season and travel to Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday (18:00) to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-final.
Moloto, a former Rise and Shine development coach, started his stint with the first team with a 2-1 win away at Richards Bay last week, while Sundowns’ opener against Marumo Gallants was postponed.
Last season the Limpopo side exited the tournament at the quarter-final stage, losing 2-0 to eventual title winners Orlando Pirates. They suffered the same fate a season prior, losing to Sundowns.
The former Tuks assistant coach told iDiski Times that he is back at the club to help challenge for trophies.
“Yeah, we’re going to challenge for the Cup,” Moloto told IDiski Times.
“It’s every team’s wish to challenge for a Cup. I think it’s long overdue for Polokwane City to lift a trophy.
“As you can remember, the time that I was with them, we nearly won the DDC, but we missed it by an inch.
“So now maybe it’s a blessing in disguise to come back so that I could bring something back home.”
