Five Motsepe Foundation Championship teams booked their place in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 on Tuesday afternoon.
Pretoria Callies, Platinum City Rovers, JDR Stars, Hungry Lions and La Masia all advanced after wins in the qualifying round.
Former champions Marumo Gallants will not be in the next round after suffering a 3-1 defeat to City Rovers, Sifiso Sigasa, Thobani Mafuna and Simphiwe Ndlovu scoring for the winners.
Muzo Khanyi and George Vaaltyn were the scorers as Lions meanwhile won 2-0 away against Casric Stars, while JDR Stars grabbed a late winner through Bongani Cele in a 1-0 victory against league leaders Orbit College.
Despite being reduced to ten men late in the game, Nelson Ralenkoane scored as Callies won 1-0 at Magesi, as Bushy Moloi continues his excellent start as Callies’ coach.
Dan Malesela’s Baroka team and Daine Klate’s La Masia were involved in the only match that went to extra time after it finished 2-2 in 90 minutes. Baroka were quickly back in front for a third time in the game, Khomotjo Lekoloane completing a brace, but La Masia once again found an equaliser to make it 3-3 and penalties were needed to decide who went through. And it was La Masia’s fighting spirit that was rewarded as they progressed, winning 4-2 in the shootout.
Three more Nedbank qualifiers will be played on Wednesday, as Venda Football Club takes on AmaTuks, Milford hosts Upington City, and Maritzburg United welcomes Black Leopards.
Tuesday’s results:
Platinum City Rovers 3-1 Marumo Gallants
Orbit College 0-1 JDR Stars
Baroka 3-2 AET La Masia
Casric Stars 0-2 Hungry Lions
Magesi 0-1 Pretoria Callies
