A Step Further- Pablo

AmaZulu head coach Pablo Franco Martin is pleased that his side were able to progress further in the Nedbank Cup than they did last season.

Junior Dion and Victor Letsoalo scored in the 2-0 win against Sekhukhune United in the last 16 round to progress to the quarter-finals in Polokwane on Thursday evening.

AmaZulu were winless in four league matches leading up to the Cup tie and had conceded eight goals and scored three times. Martin says everyone played their part in the victory and overall trip to Limpopo which was preceded by the league draw against SuperSport United last weekend.

“We are progressing to the quarter-finals which didn’t happen last season with AmaZulu, they lost in this stage against a second division team,” said Martin.

“We played today away against one for the best teams in the PSL, not only a win but getting a clean sheet, scoring two goals. It could have been four or five because we had very clear chances they also had chances. We defended so good and when we couldn’t defend all those situations we had the man of the match Veli [Mothwa] who played an amazing game. So a great day for the team. “

“I need to congratulate not only the players who participated today as I mentioned Veli but also the 25 players plus the staff members, the AmaZulu family who came to Polokwane and created a great atmosphere when we played two amazing matches against two amazing teams away and getting amazing results. So I’m really happy for the performance of the team and we need to keep going.”
