ABC Motsepe League Teams Are Tricky- Phuti Mohafe

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe is expecting his side’s Nedbank Cup last 32 encounter against The Bees to be a tough one due to the physical nature of the ABC Motsepe League.

City are enjoying a good form in the Betway Premiership sitting in third place with 25 points in 14 games. The Bees are also doing well in the second tier with a good defensive record that has seen concede just four goals in 13 games.

Mohafe says though he won’t divulge his defensive strategy his experience of working in the division he knows the Bess will be a hard nut to crack but takes comfort in the fact that Rise and Shine have conquered the best defenses in their division.

“The ABC Motsepe teams, especially from Mpumalanga, they close their doors,” said Mohafe to the club’s media department.

“I once coached there. I know how they strategize or what they care about is not conceding goals. So we are the same team and I think we’ve breached the toughest defense in our division. So going to them, I won’t divulge the plans for us to go at them, but I think we will find a way to get through their strong defence.”

Mohafe revealed that he will make rotations in encounter and give fringe players a chance to show what they can.

“There is a saying this is the FA Cup of the English Premier League,” added Mohafe.

“So we just need to rotate the team and give the other guys the chance and we’ll see what transpires after this. And I think we will be, we will be triumphant because those who are coming in will be also wanting to show the coaches that they deserve to play week in week out.”

The game between City and the Bees is scheduled for Sunday at the old Peter Mokaba stadium (15:00).
