Bobby on NBC Triumph, Looks Ahead To Africa

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has hailed the side’s current generation of players for winning the Nedbank Cup, saying they have been on a tough journey and will now beef to compete in Africa.

Chiefs stunned rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final at the Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday to end a 10-year trophy drought and also qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Motaung hailed the team spirit and fighting spirit from Nasredinne Nabi’s charges under pressure. He added the club will definitely beef up the squad ahead of the African adventure, however emphasised that the players, fans and chairman deserve the joy of the cup victory.

“For me, it’s about the journey that we’ve been through, a hard fought journey,” said Motaung on SuperSport TV.

“Well deserving for the boys, well deserving for the supporters, for the chairman, who’s been patient with everybody. 10 years of waiting, just for a trophy to put a smile on the supporters [faces].

“I thank this team of today, the generation that we’ve got they fought hard well deserving. I think for me the team spirit, the togetherness under a tight ship we still pulled it together.

“It’s a young team we are still going to beef it up because obviously we are going to Africa now but what’s important is the journey that we travelled, the type of injuries that we’ve had and the pressure these boys have been under.

“I think that they deserve this trophy, they deserve this final, they deserve the happiness.”
