2019 Nedbank Cup winners TS Galaxy eased into the Ke Yona Cup semifinals after a 2-0 win over Jacksa Spears at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Nedbank Cup is so far living up to its slogan, the Cup of Dreams, following two huge upsets on Saturday.
AmaZulu were dumped out by Casric Stars while Sekhukhune United went down to Milford FC in a tense penalty shootout.
The Rockets started on the backfoot as Ira Tape was forced into a save from Bokamoso Sereetsi’s well-taken freekick in the 21st minute to keep the score at 0-0.
The Rockets drew first blood as Igor Salatiel Silva rose high to head into the top left corner and put the home side 1-0 up in the 34th minute.
On the other end, Tape then made a stupendous close-range stop from Sheldon Mashuge after the Spears striker had skinned the Galaxy defence.
Adnan Beganovic’s men doubled their lead in the 57th minute as Tshepo Kakora intercepted Siyabonga Radebe to curl his effort into the top corner and make it 2-0.
The Rockets join Casric Stars and Milford FC in the last four with the tie between Golden Arrows and Durban City to be decided later this evening.
Despite Spears putting together interesting combinations to try and unlock the Galaxy defence, the home side stood firm thanks to Tape in goals.
