Hunt Makes Honest Admission Amid Campbell Hype

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt made a bold statement, insisting that he is the only one that will be honest to teenage sensation Shandre Campbell.

Campbell, 18, scored two crucial goals in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 against Richards Bay to help Matsatsantsa reach quarter-final for the first time in four years.

He took his goal tally to three in the Cup of Dreams, having also scored against Cape Town City in the Last 32, when United went to win on penalties.

Campbell has been one of the breakout stars in South African football this season, blossoming under the leadership of veteran Hunt.

The former Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs head coach, though, insisted that it is his job to keep the feet of Campbell and all his players on the ground.

“I’m the only one that will tell him the truth. You as a media won’t tell the truth, that’s the truth, his parents are not going to tell him the truth, his agent is not going to tell him the truth,” Hunt told journalists.

“I’m the only one that will tell him the truth, that’s my job to keep people’s feet on the ground, keep them working, keep them doing things, keep them doing better.

“I’m the gut that have to pick up the pieces.”
