In-Form De Jong Excited For Nedbank Game

In-form Stellenbosch midfielder Andre De Jong hopes to continue to shine when they meet SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

The Carling Knockout champions host SuperSport at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and are looking to reach the Nedbank semi-finals for the second consecutive year.

De Jong says Saturday will be a big game for the club against a tough opponent, but they are targeting a victory

“Obviously, as a team, we’re super excited for this game,” De Jong said.

“A big game for the club, to try and get into another semi-final. And, obviously, hopefully, go one better this year and make the final.

“So SuperSport obviously a very tricky team and pose a lot of threats, especially going forward. But hopefully, we can keep the same form that we’ve been in and progress this weekend.”

The New Zealander was the man of the match in Stellenbosch’s draw on the weekend against Sekhukhune United and is looking to build on that performance on Saturday.

“Ah yes, a nice performance,” he commented.

“Nice to play 90 minutes finally, the full 90 minutes but yeah, I think it gives the whole team confidence obviously Sekhukhune were in very good form, coming into the game and a nice clean sheet at home obviously could have pushed for more and probably deserved more from the game.

“But yeah, we take it as a confidence booster heading into the weekend.”

De Jong has been happy with his performances of late, and says the team environment helps that form be “consistent.

Yeah, I think naturally, as a team, we’ve all been in good form,” he said.

“So it’s, it’s quite easy, that everyone’s pulling together in the same direction and if you have a slightly off game, then you know the other guys and the team will lift you up and boost you for that game.

“So I think just the overall fact that the team is doing really well sort of combined with some good individual performances. I think that makes it easy to stay in form.”
