Johnson – Whoever Plays Is More Than Capable

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has hinted that he may make a few changes to his team when they face Milford in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 this evening.

Chiefs host the Motsepe Foundation Championship rookies at the FNB Stadium this evening, with the game kicking off at 6pm.

It is Milford’s first season in the second tier, after the club, who had plied their trade in the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League, bought the status of Uthongathi last year.

They could a baptism of fire against Chiefs, who are the competition’s most successful club, having won this this tournament 13 times.

Johnson told media this week, it might be a good time to make a few changes, but insisted it wouldn’t be a full rotation, and added that ‘rotation’ is not a word he likes, as he feels every player at the club should always be ready to step in.

“It is probably not the best time, (but) it is probably a good time to do it,” Johnson told the media.

“But at the same time, it’s also a good time to make sure that – I personally don’t like the word rotation.

“Because then you always want to see something different. I think if you employ 30 people in your team, they should all be ready to play at any time.

“And that’s not rotation, it’s just a matter of you using the right players against the correct opposition, and using the right players in what you think is the right players to play against the opposition you’re playing against.

“And that to me is important for the players to understand, and for us to understand otherwise, you always have an A and a B team. And now you asked me, you know, I don’t think it’s right, I think whoever plays on the day is more than capable of playing on any day.”
