Jomo Makes Shock PSL Claim

Jomo Cosmos chairman and coach Jomo Sono has made a claim that at least 80% of the clubs in the PSL are being coached by club bosses, though they have appointed tacticians sitting on the bench.

Sono’s sentiments come as two Motsepe Foundation Championship sides Casric Stars and Milford FC are gearing up for the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup this coming weekend, with the bosses also leading on the touchline.

The Orlando Pirates legend spoke to iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 249 of the newspaper where he applauded Joseph ‘Bucs’ Mthombeni and Dr Xanti Pupuma for the bravery of coaching their own teams.

Sono also said the that’s also an act of accountability as there is no one else to blame even in the event of failure.

“You know, to be honest I don’t want to sound controversial,” Sono told iDiski Times.

“But I must give them credit for being brave enough to stand there on the bench. You know the reality is that 80% of the clubs in the PSL, they are being coached by the Chairman.

“It’s not the coaches who are coaching you, even see with the phone calls we once saw on TV a coach, it’s not a coach. It’s the chairman telling the coach who to take off and who to put on.

“At least us and them, we’re brave enough to stand there, to face the consequences of success and failure at the same time.

“You know, and when you’re handling it, and it’s yours, you don’t have favouritism because sometimes with coaches there’s favouritism. There’s also an allegation that some of the coaches are taking money from players.”
