Kadodia Reflects On City’s Historic Nedbank Cup Triumph

Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia has reflected on his side’s historic Nedbank Cup triumph following their victory at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Citizens secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy in the final, marking a significant milestone as they lifted their first major trophy.

The achievement is even more remarkable considering this is their debut season in the top flight, having only gained promotion at the start of the campaign.

The KZN outfit has had a strong showing in the Betway Premiership, where they currently occupy seventh place with 36 points from 26 matches.

Their success has come in spite of instability in the technical team, with the club parting ways with experienced coach Gavin Hunt, followed by Sinethemba Badela, before appointing Pitso Dladla in an interim capacity.

Reflecting on the triumph, Kadodia expressed immense pride, noting that the victory ended a long wait for a KwaZulu-Natal club to win the competition since 2009.

He emphasised that the achievement is a testament to the dedication, planning, and hard work carried out behind the scenes at the club.

“This is a landmark moment for Durban City FC and for the people of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Kadodia, as per the club’s statement.

“To bring home a major trophy after so many years is something truly special, and it speaks to the vision, hard work, and unity behind this Club.”
