Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has predicted the results of the Nedbank Cup semi-final matches saying the current top teams in the country will go to the final.
Defending champions Orlando Pirates host Marumo Gallants in the first match at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon (15:00) looking to go to their third successive final, while the 2021 champions are looking to cause an upset.
Later that evening (18:00) last season’s finalists Mamelodi Sundowns face Kaizer Chiefs for the fourth time this campaign for the other place in the final.
Two semi-finalists Pirates and Sundowns have enjoyed a triumphant week, having booked their places in the CAF Champions League semis in midweek, while Chiefs come from a four match winless streak in the league and Gallants are reviving their season under a new coach.
Khanye says though Bahlabane ba ntwa look on form and have defeated Pirates recently in the league they do not have the pedigree to challenge the Buccaneers in the Cup.
“I don’t see a surprise there,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I think Marumo Gallants is playing against a big team and one of the top teams in South Africa currently them and Sundowns.
“Pirates has experience in international football. Yes Marumo Gallants has a new coach but I don’t think they can match Orlando Pirates pound for pound because Pirates has quality and that game Pirates will win. I give them a straight win”.
As far as the fixture involving his former side Khanye didn’t mince his words, saying Sundowns will win 2-0.
“I don’t think Chiefs will match Sundowns and worse they are playing at Loftus the pitch [which] will allow them to do as much as they want,” added Khanye.
“Sundowns does not play for a draw. Sundowns will win 2-0, specifically [Peter] Shalulile will score. Chiefs will have moments don’t underestimate them because they get inspired and encouraged when playing against Sundowns and Pirates.
“They can surprise you but I don’t think they’ve got the quality to bypass Ronwen Williams.
“I think the best attacking team in the country which is Pirates will play the best positioned team in the country Sundowns, I think they will be in the final.
