Royal AM head coach John Maduka came up with a cryptic response when asked whether chairman Andile Mpisane could run out for the first team.
Mpisane, 21, is understood to have joined the club’s first-team team training and featured for the DStv Diski Challenge team in a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu.
He previously came on as a late substitute in Royal AM’s penalty shootout win against Kaizer Chiefs in the Macufe Cup in September and also made a bench appearance in the 1-0 defeat against Richards Bay in the same month.
Maduka recently stated that the chairman-turned-player definitely “has the talent and potential” but his fitness remains a question.
During the post-match conference after his side’s 4-3 penalty shoutout win in the Nedbank Cup last-32 at Cape Town City, the Malawian mentor was asked by this publication whether we can expect to see Mpisane taking to the pitch for the first team.
“It can be tomorrow, it can be the day after tomorrow, it can be anytime. You must remember that as a coach you prepare the team,” Maduka responded to iDiski Times with a smirk.
“If you raise up your hand and we think you’re ready, we will put you in.”
Royal AM will know their next opponents in the Nedbank Cup last-16 on Wednesday when the draw will take place.
The club has gone as far reaching the semi-final of the competition as they were knocked out by Mamelodi Sundowns last season, with Maduka also saying he is keen on going further this time around.
