Riveiro On Securing Semi-Final Spot And Chaine Heroics

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has reacted to the three-peat of the Nedbank Cup still being alive with Sipho Chaine the hero in the penalty shootout.

Pirates looked to be coasting into the last-four of the competition that they have won back to back under the guidance of the Spaniard.

But Gape Moralo netted a 93rd minute equaliser to send the game into extra-time which proved a nervy affair for both sides. But Chaine went on to save to penalties as they won 5-4 after the game had finished 2-2 after extra-time.

“It’s one of the possibilities in a knockout game, there’s only two possible results in these types of games, if you can not make it in the 120 minutes, you have to go to penalties and do your best,” Riveiro said.

“We did good job in that space, and again happy to be in the semi-finals.”

Riveiro said the South Africa international, together with goalkeper coach Tyron Damon and the team of analysts deserve plenty of credit for the victory at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium today.

“It’s his role in the penalty shoot out, he has to stay there between the posts and try to catch at least one more than the opponent, he’s been doing well in that scenario in recent occasions in penalties,” he stated.

“Today again he did an excellent job, together with the analysis department, with the goalkeeper coach, with everyone in that space, helping him to do the right decisions.”

Pirates will now await the draw for the semi-finals which takes place on Sunday after the Durban City vs Marumo Gallants clash.
