Orlando Pirates had a field day in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32, beating minnows Crystal Lake 6-0 on Saturday, with Tshegofatso Mabasa netting his first goal since returning to the club.
Olisah Ndah opened the scoring after just four minutes, finding himself at the end of corner to make it 1-0.
Three minutes Thapelo Xoki made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Evidence Makgopa had been brought down inside the box.
It was already 3-0 inside 11 minutes when Relebohile Mofokeng put a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.
Pirates continued to dominate the game, but fluffed more of their chances, with in particular Makgopa at fault.
It should’ve been 4-0 after 28 minutes when Xoki only hit the upright from close range. A minute later, Makgopa was denied via bicycle kick off the line.
After 36 minutes Lake made a change in their goalkeepinging department, replacing Excellent Mkhonto, who didn’t look too excellent in at least two of Pirates goals but also picked up a knock, with Busani Mabunda.
Maswanganyi had the first big chance of the second half but he couldn’t get the ball past Mabunda from close range.
Xoki completed his brace, finding himself at the end of another corner to make it 5-0 for the Buccaneers.
Crystal Lake had a brilliant chance to score after a mistake by Xoki in the 68th minute but striker Teboho Mashego chipped the ball past the post.
Second-half substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa then got in on the action in the 79th minute, making it 6-0 for the Sea Robbers with another header following a corner – their 13th in the game.
Sipho Chaine then prevented Crystal Lake from scoring a consolation goal with a superb save.
