Stellies Not Ready To Lose To Chiefs Again

Stellenbosch FC duo, Sage Stephens and Thabo Moloisane, have put their heads on the block ahead of the Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Kaizer Chiefs at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

It is a never-ending battle between Stellies and Chiefs, who will face each other for the third time this season when they battle for a place in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals this evening.

In January, Chiefs came from a goal down to beat Stellenboach by 2-1, while a month later, Amakhosi completed the double over Stellies at Athlone Stadium, beating them 1-0 with new signing Glody Lilepo scoring the only goal of the match.

Stellies have a chance to return the favour today when they face each other for the third time in two months.

Speaking with the media, Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens and defender Thabo Moloisane made it clear that they can’t allow Chiefs to beat them three times in one season, insisting they have to end the hodoo this weekend.

“I think eyes will be on us because we can’t let Chiefs beat us three times in one season, let alone ion the couple of months,” Stephens told the media.

“So this football game is very important to us as a club and we as players we gonna make sure as players we do everything we can to get the results.

Moloisane shared the same sentiments: “Not necessarily we have pressure, per se. For us, the first thing to do is to rectify something.

“We’ve never allowed a team to beat us twice in one season, so we can never allow it to get to three. I think this weekend is more about rectifying what has already happened this season.”

The game kicks off at 18:00 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in PE.
